The Pull of Appearances

6 January 2026

One lady had such a beautiful experience through her meditation practice — and then got pulled straight back into the world of social media and the game of appearances: excessive make-up, subtle photo effects, a change of face. Social acceptance matters so much in our lives. If only self-respect were so easy to attain.

Have you ever wondered why? I think our mind is so attached to artificial pleasures that no matter how good a meditation experience we've had, it stays short-lived — because we don't want to make the effort. We want to choose the easy path instead.

Our mind is like a little baby, attracted to whatever looks beautiful. But not everything that is beautiful is real. So we have to constantly play with our mind, take control of it, and move it towards something permanent — something that is truly our own.

There is a big pull the other way. It takes a real, constant effort to resist it.
